No more poop?

A new initiative by Achrafieh2020 aims to keep the streets free of dog poop. It is a problem, but who should be responsible?

Dogs should be allowed in public spaces when with responsible guardians. As companion animals they should even be welcome.

Guardians should not have to worry that their dog may eat poison left on the streets, or suffer ill treatment from those not welcoming of dogs.

But guardians have a responsibility to be good neighbors and ensure that dogs are always welcome.

Achrafieh2020 announced that we can walk with our heads high as they have teamed up with Sukleen to clean up any dog poop from Achrafieh streets. They have even provided a way to report any poop that citizens might find.

Everyone wants clean streets, but whose responsibility is it to clean after their dog?

We are always happy whenever a rescued dogs gets into a great home. Seeing so many more dog friendly events and businesses is very encouraging.

Having a pet means being responsible for the welfare and actions of the pet. When you take your dog in public use a leash and take a plastic bag. If your dog poops, clean it up. There are plenty of dumpsters and trash cans around. As people who love dogs it is our responsibility and only the most minor inconvenience.

It is great that Achrafieh2020 has addressed this. We hope that it will soon be a requirement to clean up after your pet.

Otherwise, there is a risk that guardians will become less responsible as the government will clean up later.

Let’s all do our part to make sure dogs are welcome in Achrafieh and all of Lebanon.
