Your Excellencies,

I support Animals Lebanon's campaign to enact national animal protection and welfare legislation.

Current animal welfare legislation calls for maximum penalties of less than 15 dollars, but extensive research has not shown this law used even once in the past twenty years. Lebanon has fallen behind international and regional standards, and is not meeting the minimum standards of international conventions it has joined or is in the process of joining.

In cooperation with government bodies and international organizations, Animals Lebanon has drafted comprehensive legislation for the protection and welfare of animals. This legislation was drafted in collaboration with international experts after reviewing the current status of animal welfare in Lebanon, existing national legislation, legislation of countries in the region, international conventions, and best practices throughout the world.

I fully support Animals Lebanon's campaign to enact national animal protection and welfare legislation, and kindly urge the government to review and enact this legislation as soon as possible. The protection and welfare of animals is important to me and I look forward to the day when animals are given legal protection.
