Minister Pledges to Protect Big Cats

Minister pledges to use "all legal means to seize any animals from traffickers."

Big cats "don't belong in a cage or in a home as a symbol of power or personal wealth," said Minister of Agriculture Akram Chehayeb during the launch of the Last Chance for Big Cats campaign.

Animal City Zoo and Zazoo, both of which have supplied lions to the public, have failed to register with the Ministry of Agriculture despite a clear decree requiring this. The zoos will now have 15 days to register or face loss of animals and temporary or permanent closure.

The Minister is also issuing a decision banning the keeping of big cats as pets, and requiring zoos to meet standards of care for any big cat they keep.

We need your help now! This is the time to stop the trafficking and sale of these endangered species!
