The mother that wouldn't let go

Pregnant dog thrown out of car and shot.

The story of Isis is among the saddest we have faced in all our years of rescuing animals.

According to the people who alerted Animals Lebanon about this case, Isis, a pregnant German Shepard was thrown out of a car late Friday night and shot by her own guardian. Her screams of pain were so piercing that those who heard her thought she had died. The next day, residents of this quiet neighborhood were shocked when they found Isis crouched by the side of the road frantically caring for 7 puppies.

In sheer panic after being shot, Isis must have delivered prematurely. Some were dead - the rest barely holding on to life. Sadly, none of her puppies made it.

The scene was like no other we had witnessed - Isis stood her ground whimpering, and crying over her puppies, refusing to let a single one go. In order to get her into the rescue crate, we had to first put her dead puppies inside so that she would follow. Despite her obvious pain from the gun shot wounds, this devastated mother showed no signs of aggression.

When we arrived to the vet, we immediately began treating her. It was a heart wrenching moment when taking an echo of Isis, she had one of her dead puppies in her mouth that she would not let go of.

The law project for the protection and welfare of animals would make these shooting incidents illegal.

According to the law this would be considered unnecessary pain and suffering.
4.1 Unless otherwise specified under this Law, it is prohibited to perform any act that may inflict distress, pain or suffering to animals or subject them to danger or torture.

The penalties for this are strong -

26 Any breach of the provisions of this Law is sentenced by a fine between three and twenty million Lebanese Liras. The Court may prohibit the perpetrator from carrying out all activities stipulated by this law for a minimum period of one year.

We are in urgent need of a foster home for Isis - please open your heart to this mother and show her the love and affection that will help her recover from her great loss. If interested, kindly send an e-mail to adopt@animalslebanon.org
