Another legal win for animals!

Prosecutor orders confiscation of abused dog after Animals Lebanon complaint.

On 23 June 2025, Animals Lebanon received a horrifying video showing a young dog, barely six months old. He was locked in a cage and violently beaten with an iron rod. His screams of pain were unbearable.

This was a clear violation of the animal protection and. Welfare law we had worked so hard to have enacted in 2017. Our legal team, led by Mr. Mounir Zoghbi, immediately went to the police station to file an urgent complaint. But instead of acting swiftly to save a life, the case stalled and no authority intervened.

We persisted and filed a formal complaint the next day before Judge Samer Leishaa. The judge accepted the complaint but again no enforcement form local authorities.

Despite our repeated follow-up over the next weeks neighbors continued to report the same heartbreaking cries from the dog — still confined and suffering.

Finally The Legal Breakthrough to Rescue Zoro

This week, after ongoing pressure from Animals Lebanon and an outpouring of public support, multiple lawyers and judges from across Lebanon joined forces to act.

Thanks to the decision of General Prosecutor Mirelle Mallak, a formal order was issued to seize the dog and take legal action against the abuser.

After hours at the police station Animals Lebanon was finally able to secure the release of Zoro. The poor dog — who had been beaten, kept tightly muzzled most of the time, and transported in a tiny cat carrier — was trembling but gentle. You can even see the fur on his snout darkened from the constant friction and pressure.

Zoro is now safe with a loving foster and had his first check by our vet. Despite everything, he remains trusting and full of love.

Zoro’s story shows both the cruelty animals endure — and what’s possible when we fight for them together.
